AN ORDINARY ARMY MOTHER BY
SYLVIA
Just an ordinary mother
In jeans and casual shoes
Her face impassive but growing pale
As she hears the latest news
Another roadside bomb explodes
Another chopper down
Another ordinary day
For the troops in the ground
The pride in her heart is strong
As strong as their resolve to win
But after years of war
Her resolve is wearing thin
For her son's safe return she hopes
For more, she dares not pray
She wonders if it's too much to ask
Just to make it through the day
She wonders how much a mother's heart
Can bear until it breaks
But her heart already knows the answer
As much as it takes.
