88H Cargo Specialist
Your Name (as you would like it to
appear): Stacy
Your Soldier's MOS (please include code
and description, for example "11B Infantry"): 88H Cargo
Specialist
When did your soldier attend? 8/7/07 -
9/25/07
Where was he stationed for AIT? Ft
Eustis, VA
How long was his AIT? 7 weeks
What was his training like? Normal
schedule? Did he train on weekends? Late at night? Classroom or
field based?
My hubby pretty much had a normal
schedule. The never really did any training at night except for
warrior week when they were in the field. I think his training
was split between classroom and what I'll call the field. They
practiced a lot on a "landship" for loading things and also
driving the equipment and loading things on a train. He didn't
really have training on the weekends but there were a couple
Saturdays where they did have a class or two (usually on sexual
harassment and in response to things happening in the barracks).
Did you get to see him during AIT? I was
only 2 hours from where he was, so I drove up, got a hotel room
and saw him every weekend I could (when he wasn't on red pass or
I didn't have a prior engagement)
How often were you able to communicate
with him? By phone? Email? Hubby didn't really have access to
email and we have never talked through email. I talked to him
pretty much every night on the cell phone during personal time.
Describe the graduation ceremony.
The graduation ceremony was okay. All the
graduates sat on one side of the room and those of us who came
to watch (which wasnt very many) were on the other. There was a
speaker and a general video on the army (not MOS specific). They
sang the the transportation corp song, recited the creed, and a
few other things. Then they all walked across the stage. As each
soldier walked across, they said a few things like their names,
where they were from and where they were being stationed. After
the graduation though, we had to wait a few hours before we
could pick him up and head home. There was outprocessing that
could not be done until after the graduation ceremony.
