 Nov 06 - Aug 07

Where was he stationed for AIT?

 Fort Gordon, GA

How long was his AIT?

6 months of actual AIT, but there was a major delay so they didn't start classes until January (this is pretty common at Fort Gordon)

What was his training like? Normal schedule? Did he train on weekends? Late at night? Classroom or field based?

Classroom training, he did both day and swing (night) shift, no weekend trainings but a lot of weekend formations

Did you get to see him during AIT?

Yes, he got to live with me once he was Phase 5+

How often were you able to communicate with him? By phone? Email?

Daily by phone at first, then he got to come home on weekends when he was Phase 5 and live at home as Phase 5+

Describe the graduation ceremony.

They didn't have one, they were doing a FTX

Any other tips or information?

It can be really frustrating for the soldier & their family when they first get to Fort Gordon and are told that they won't start classes for MONTHS (which happens a LOT).  They basically get stuck doing details such as raking the dirt, picking up cigarette butts, etc. until classes start.  Just be patient and supportive.  Make sure your soldier passes PT tests, they are the key to phasing up and as soon as they phase up they can start coming home!
