15R Apache Attack Helicopter Mechanic

Your Name (as you would like it to appear): Rebecca B, PFC

Your Soldier's MOS: 15R-Apache Attack Helicopter Mechanic

When did your soldier attend?: Summer 2006

Where was he stationed for AIT?: Fort Eustis, VA (Newport News, VA)

How long was his AIT?: 15 Weeks

What was his training like? Normal schedule? Did he train on weekends? Late at night? Classroom or field based?:    The classes are split between days and nights just like college. Night classes lasted until 1am. They still had PT like everyone else, but it was based around what class schedule you were on. No one class had it better than the other. Classes were held between actual classes, hands-on training in the hangars, and then the FTX (field exercise), its more like a practical. He had off on the weekends, unless someone get the group in trouble, but he didn't get weekend passes till about the last 3 weeks of school. Overnight passes are a privilege.

Did you get to see him during AIT?: Yes, when he had overnights, he would come down to my place, which was about a 45 min drive. We actually met while he was in AIT.

How often were you able to communicate with him? By phone? Email?: We spoke after or before school. Never email, but tons of text messages. I wanted him to stay focused on his school.

Describe the graduation ceremony. : I actually didn't go to his graduation, I had to work that day. But it was formal, Class A uniform, lots of brass (officers) were there with their Drill Sergeants. It was proud day for my husband.

Any other tips or information? Be patient and supportive, trust me you'll have plenty of time to fall in love again after all the Army training is over and they are out of the TRADOC environment.
