What is housing like?
On-post? (waiting list, conditions, etc.) Off-post? Any areas to
stay away from? Average price to rent or buy?
It took us
about two weeks to get a house here on Wheeler. I hear the wait
list is really long right now for Schofield and that they are
FULL right now so it may be awhile for a house there.
Rate the PX &
Commissary.
The PX is ok
but it could have some different stores, I like the one they had
at Ft. Eustis. The commissary is pretty decent but the fruit and
veggies aren't the greatest. And its always crazy there!! They
are both located on Schofield, the only things we have here on
Wheeler are a bowling alley, shoppette, and a YMCA.
Activities on base?
There's A LOT
of stuff for the kiddies but not too much for the adults. Also
99% of everything is on Schofield there's pretty much NOTHING
here on Wheeler. But its just a drive right across the street to
Schofield.
Active Spouses Club?
I heard there
is one but not sure of the web address
Things to do in area?
all of the
outdoor kinda stuff, also you can always island hop!!
School System?
Not sure I
don't have kids
Any colleges in area?
I'm still
looking into that
Jobs? (on post and
off)
not that many
to be honest
Favorite aspect of
this base/surrounding city?
its pretty
nice haha
Least favorite
aspect?
Our house is
right next to the freeway so we're always listening to cars and
such, its pretty crappy when we can't even open a darn window!!
Also Hawaii is cool but its just TOO far away from home for my
liking!
Any other tips?
Just get out and do
stuff, that’s what I'm finding out right now. It's all that you
make of it! And good luck with the move out to the rock!!
