What is housing like? On-post? (waiting list, conditions, etc.) Off-post? Any areas to stay away from? Average price to rent or buy? not too bad, a lot is getting remodeled from old tile to carpet. off post is quite expensive since there isn't much around. for a 2 bdrm apt it is around 800
Rate the PX & Commissary. the px is ok, but the prices are kinda high, same with the commissary, there is a super walmart right off post that is cheaper
Activities on base? movie theater, bowling, lots of parks, a swimming pool that will open in a few months, hunting
Active Spouses Club? the frg gets some great activities together for spouses of the deployed
Things to do in area? milfor lake has great fishing and boating, bowling alley, movies, hunting, pretty much the same as on post
School System? I don't have kids, but i think the highschools are all off post
Any colleges in area? kansas university, and thats all you hear about from the locals too.
Jobs? (on post and off) hard to find. unless you don't mind being a waitress in a smoke filled restaurant
Favorite aspect of this base/surrounding city? walmart is close.
Least favorite aspect? cops go down mainstreet everyday, it has a bad rep for crimes.
Local websites? (base, chamber, newspaper, schools, etc.)
Any other tips? it is a million times better than ft. bragg, that's all I can say for it. |
