long have you been here? 04-present What is housing like? On-post? (waiting list, conditions, etc.) Off-post? They
are building new housing at present and there isn't a waiting list, if
there is one there isn't much of one.
The new houses are very nice the older houses are decent, better
than some posts. Any areas to stay away from? Do NOT live in Salinas, just trust me!
Average price to rent or buy? Rent
is super expensive here your average 1 bedroom apartment will run about
1,000 per month and two bedroom around 1600 per month. Electricity is
high here too. Buying a
house, well average 3 bedroom house on a lot costs about 300,000 but
most houses comparable to the new housing runs about 500,000 and since
most people are only here for a year or two nobody buys houses out here. Rate the PX & Commissary. 1
being worse 10 best I give it about 7. Buy everything you can at the
commissary, it's by far the cheapest place to get things. Activities on base? Post
wide yard sale every quarter is nice, they have activities often enough. Active Spouses Club? Not
that I'm aware of but they have the mayor thing that is kinda like
spouses club. Things to do in area? OMG
tons to do. This place is
beautiful and the scenery is breath taking.
There is always something to do here, something going on! School System? I
don't know I don't have children Any colleges in area? Monterey
Peninsula college (community) and CSUMB (4 year university) Jobs? (on post and off) Jobs
are tough for spouses off post because people are reluctant to hire
spouses cause of the short amount of time they are here.
Most wives end up working in the DEERS call center located here
in the old fort ord DOD building. Favorite aspect of this base/surrounding city? How
beautiful it is! Least favorite aspect? Not
a very military friendly town. Lots
of war and military protestors. Local websites? Monterey

you can work I suggest it. Your DH will be very busy studying because
they get that language crammed into them.
