What is housing like? On-post? (waiting list, conditions, etc.) Off-post? Any areas to stay away from? Average price to rent or buy? 

I can only speak for myself and I like the apartment that we found. I would say to stay away from areas in South Lakewood (close to the base) and some in central Tacoma. Average rent for 2 bdrm apartments are anywhere from $600-$800 from what I've seen.

Rate the PX & Commissary. 

I love them both. So...PX 8 and Commissary 9 (although it is usually really busy in there so if you don't like that stay away!! but price wise it's great)

Activities on base?

Things to do in area? 

There's lots of outdoorsy stuff to do. You could go to Mt. Rainier or go hiking around different areas. Olympia is beautiful to wander around. There's alot of shopping. Seattle is only about 30 minutes away so it's not a big trip to go up there either.

School System? 

Don't know

Any colleges in area? 

There's a ton! Lots of traditional colleges and technical colleges.

Jobs? (on post and off) 

I've had a really hard time finding one off post...I'm about to try on post pretty soon

Favorite aspect of this base/surrounding city? 

I think it's pretty if you like the out doors, and it's still big enough there's stuff to do.

Least favorite aspect? 

The weather in the winter and spring sucks!! (bring on the umbrellas!!)

Any other tips? 

Not really...I guess that the base is what you make of it! So try to enjoy it!
