FT GORDON
Your Name (if you
would like it to appear): Nikki
Base Name: Fort Gordon
Base Location: Georgia
How long have you been here? (give years
please, ex. 2003-present) Nov 2007-present (will be leaving July
08) What is housing like? On-post? (waiting list, conditions, etc.) Off-post? Any areas to stay away from? Average price to rent or buy? The newer housing on post is VERY nice!!! They look better than most apartments. However there is still a lot of the old housing and that is where most lower ranks or those with no children go. They are not very good at all! Lead in the paint, paint peeling off, floor coming up...you get the picture. Off post is nice in most areas. I would stay away from tobacco road. The area varies to much over there. One street will be okay and the next will be drug infested. Grovetown is really nice, its right outside of gate 2. Washington road is nice as will as most areas around north and south belair. Anything is Columbia County is wonderful from what I can see.
Rate the PX & Commissary. The PX is small
compared to most I have seen but it has the essentials. The
commissary is nice. The people who work there are kind and the
prices are good.
Activities on base? There is a lake,
paintball, go carts and a movie theater.
Active Spouses Club? Not sure
Things to do in area? This is a place called
Adventure Crossing. They have laser tag as well as a ton of games.
Downtown as some decent boutique's. There is Fort Discovery which I
hear is very cool.
School System? not sure.
Any colleges in area? Troy University and
Augusta Tech. I am sure there are more. Jobs? (on post and off) There are tons of shopping places so you always have that. As far as offices and such, I am not sure.
Favorite aspect of this base/surrounding city?
The place really has this hometown feel. You have to ignore the
dirty areas of town, or do I like I do and never go to them :) I
love Augusta and would love to stay :) The base is small and
everything is super easy to find Least favorite aspect? the idiot drivers!!!
Local websites? (base, chamber, newspaper, schools, etc.) Columbia County website http://www.columbiacountyga.gov/ Fort Gordon websites Augusta GA Any other tips?
Everything is super easy to find in this
town so don't be afraid to look around :)
