How long have you been here? July 2004 to
present
What is housing like? On-post? Housing on post
is getting better. A company called Picern has taken over it and they
are redoing all of the houses. Some are being torn down all together
and some are being remodeled.
Off-post? Off post is weird. One min you are
driving through what seems to be a nice neighborhood and then all of a
sudden you are in the ghetto.
Any areas to stay away from? Stay AWAY from the
Murch. The Murchison Road area is nothing but trouble. Also check with
the housing office for a list of areas and landlords and real estate
agents that are banned.
Average price to rent or buy? average price for
2 bedroom is 600 and 3 bedroom is 800.
Rate the PX & Commissary. Great. they have 2
of each on each end of post. The north post commissary isn't open on
Mondays so if you go on Sunday about 1 to 2 hours before they close
all the meat is marked down to like a dollar a pound. Its not bad or
anything it just cant sit there till Tuesday.
Activities on base? There are 2 bowling alleys,
a ice skating rink, and a family bar and grill. Prices are great.
Active Spouses Club? Not that I have seen. It is
mostly up to the FRG.
Things to do in area? There is a water park in
Spring Lake, tones of movie theaters in Fayetteville, the beach is a
short drive away, also driving to the mountains to go skiing isn't
bad.
School System? I cant comment on this since I
don't have kids old enough for school.
Any colleges in area? There is Fayetteville
Tech, and I believe a actual college but don't quote me on that.
Jobs? (on post and off) The job market is
scarce. And the jobs that are there are not great paying.
Favorite aspect of this base/surrounding city? I
really don't like Fayetteville or Spring Lake. As far as Fort Bragg
itself I will not miss it when we leave.
Least favorite aspect? Traffic in town is
horrible. I mean absolutely horrid.

Any other tips? Try to stay away from most
businesses on Bragg Blvd. This road runs through Fayetteville, Fort
Bragg, and Spring Lake but it is full of bars, strip clubs, tattoo
parlors, hookers, and junkies. GOOD LUCK
