Basic Training
1. Your name (as you would like it to appear
on the website): Kristina
2. Where did your soldier attend basic
training? Ft. Leonard Wood
3. When did he attend basic training? He went
in February 2006
4. How often did you hear from him? (Phone and
letters) Phone- once, possibly twice a week as Basic progressed;
Letters- 6 or 7 the whole time he was in Basic.. he's not much of a
writer!
5. How long was it before you heard from him
the first time? Exactly a week after he left.
6. How long did it take to receive a mailing
address for him? Two weeks from when he left.
7. Were there any restrictions on what you
could send him? No food, no presents (so just letters and cards).
However *hypothetically speaking*, neccos wrapped in saran wrap
can't fall apart and can easily be taped to the inside of a card. I
am not advocating this, of course.
8. Were you sent information about family day
and graduation? Not from the Army since I'm 'only a fiance.' I know
his mom and dad were.
9. Did he have a family day? Yes, but I wasn't
able to go. :-(
10. Please describe the graduation ceremony.
n/a
11. Is there a website for his basic training
unit? Is there a place to see pictures of his training online? Yes,
but they've revamped the site since then.
12. Any other tips or information? Write
every day! Don't think, if he doesn't write, that he doesn't love
you. I wasted too much sleep over that and it seems so stupid two
years later!! Show your pride and read up on books written for or
about being an Army wife. If nothing else, it helps to pass the
time.
**************************************** We are currently seeking writers to contribute about their soldier's experience during basic training. Since training, contact and the overall atmosphere can vary greatly from one basic training post to the next, I thought this would be helpful. If you would like to contribute your experience to help other Army family members, please email me this completed questionnaire. Thank you for your help!
