Basic Training
1. Your name (as you would like it to
appear on the website):
Ashley
2. Where did your soldier attend basic
training?
Fort Benning, GA
3. When did he attend basic training?
Nov 07 - Feb 08
4. How often did you hear from him? (Phone
and letters)
Rarely on the phone but letters every
single day
5. How long was it before you heard from
him the first time?
Four weeks
6. How long did it take to receive a
mailing address for him?
Four weeks
7. Were there any restrictions on what you
could send him?
Yes. I could only send him stamps and
letters and nothing else.
8. Were you sent information about family
day and graduation?
Yes a lot of information at least one
month after he left.
9. Did he have a family day? If so, please
describe.
Yes he had a family day. We sat
outside and they introduced each battalion. It was kept short
and to the point until they released him for the day.
10. Please describe the graduation
ceremony.
The graduation ceremony was great.
They had the band come out first. Then the speaker came on and
they had a presentation about what our men learned and about the
war. They demonstrated what it was like for our men at war which
included smoke and live fire and tanks. They then introduced the
men and women who were graduating. Then they congratulated them
and let them go.
11. Is there a website for his basic
training unit? Is there a place to see pictures of his training
online? Yes there is a site, but right now its not up. And they
don't update pictures that well.
12. Any other tips or information? Fort
Benning is a very tough installation to train at for basic
training. Basically if your husband/fiance or boyfriend go to
Fort Benning be prepared to not hear from them as much as you
want besides letters. And that's why I ended up on here and
thank goodness for this site, its my sanity!
**************************************** We are currently seeking writers to contribute about their soldier's experience during basic training. Since training, contact and the overall atmosphere can vary greatly from one basic training post to the next, I thought this would be helpful. If you would like to contribute your experience to help other Army family members, please email me this completed questionnaire. Thank you for your help!
